Colleague engagement

Today, we have more than 4,600 colleagues globally, from across our operations, who are active champions, and are involved in fundraising and volunteering activity to support our charity partners on land and onboard our flights.

In 2023, we gifted our UK based colleagues a £20 voucher to donate to any organisation supported by the BA Better World Community Fund. 7,027 colleagues donated more than £140,000 to 140 different UK charities.

Our colleagues also continued to give via the payroll, with British Airways matching the amount donated. In 2023, approximately 3,000 colleagues donated to 597 charities, raising £1,175,474 through payroll giving.

We continue to create new ways for our customers and partners to donate to and support the BA Better World Community Fund.

As well as giving onboard, British Airways Executive Club Members can donate to their chosen charity using their Avios. In 2023, the British Airways Executive Club (BAEC) ran two match funding campaigns which doubled the value of Avios donated by BAEC members. These donations, combined with the match funding, raised over £180,000 of funding to BA Better World Community Fund-supported causes.

Crisis Response

For over a decade, we’ve partnered with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which brings together 15 leading aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas. Since our partnership began, we have supported 13 appeals and raised more than £2 million in donations.

In addition to providing monetary donations to the DEC, we also work with other humanitarian organisations to support requests for the deployment of humanitarian relief workers and, in partnership with IAG Cargo, shipments of lifesaving supplies.

Community Donations and Waste Prevention

To support local communities in need and to prevent waste, we re-distribute on a weekly basis, end of range products and nonperishable items. This includes supporting charities such as Surplus to Supper, which helps to bridge the gap between food waste and food poverty in five boroughs near Heathrow, and London and Slough Run, a charity that supports vulnerable adults and families that are at risk of homelessness. In 2023, we donated more than 340,000 items to 42 projects. The items include amenity kits, blankets, toothbrush kits, sanitation products and dry food.
