Helping our customers make more informed travel decisions

We’re empowering our customers to make more informed travel choices through our climate software solution, CO2llaborate. It enables passengers to view the estimated emissions generated from their travel and lets them contribute to a range of climate projects.

The digital platform also offers a climate programme for companies to better measure and manage the carbon emissions associated with their business flying. Our corporate customers can access a dashboard that shows the estimated CO2 emissions generated from their business travel and sign up for monthly emissions reports. Companies can select how to address their carbon emissions by purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or contributing to certified carbon removals projects.

In 2023, we saw a 48% increase in the funds raised to support environmental projects versus the previous year.

We’re also working with corporate and cargo customers outside of the platform through bilateral contracts, so they can purchase SAF directly from us to support their Scope 3 emission reduction.

Engaging customers onboard

In 2023, we introduced our BA Better World channel onboard, which features a variety of videos across People, Planet and Responsible Business. We reached more than 16,000 customers in our first year.

We also improved the capability for customers to view the impact from their flight and contribute to a range of climate-related projects through our onboard in-flight entertainment system, using deep-linking technology.

Corporate customer
sustainability engagement

We continue to work closely with our corporate customers on a shared journey to reach our Net Zero goals.

In March 2023, we hosted a corporate customer sustainability summit for 70 of our top corporate customers. This event allowed us to share our BA Better World strategy and better understand how we can work with our customers to achieve our goals, in alignment with theirs.

We also supported the Sustainable Skies World Summit 2023, showcasing our BA Better World sustainability strategy. At our exhibit we discussed our road map to Net Zero emissions by 2050, SAF, our operational efficiency initiatives and the latest developments in sustainable aviation technology.

Government affairs

We work with governments and regulators to lobby for positive policy changes. We also engage with a variety of trade associations, customers, suppliers, employees and communities to advocate for support for emissions reductions and to share progress on our Flightpath to Net Zero.

We’re a participating member of the UK government’s Jet Zero Council (JZC), which has been running since 2021, to provide advice on the government’s ambitions to deliver Net Zero aviation. The JZC is a partnership between industry and government, bringing together ministers and CEO-level stakeholders, through regular meetings and subgroups, with the aim to drive the ambitious delivery of new technologies and innovation to cut aviation emissions.

The work of the JZC supported the launch of an ambitious ‘Jet Zero Strategy’ for UK aviation, with the government committing to reviewing the strategy every five years and adapting its approach based on the progress made.
