Fighting Illegal
Wildlife Trafficking

As signatories of the Buckingham Palace Wildlife Declaration, we continue our work to help prevent illegal wildlife trafficking.

During 2023, we enhanced our reporting procedures and incorporated wildlife trafficking procedures within our flight operations and ground operations manuals to help our colleagues recognise and report suspected incidents of wildlife trafficking. We also launched an internal colleague engagement campaign and champion network.

In addition, we added educational wildlife trafficking videos to our in-flight entertainment system, so our customers can learn more about this important subject. We would encourage everyone in the transport sector to support the Buckingham Palace Declaration and sign-up to it if they can.

Water Stewardship

Water conservation is an important component of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) IEnvA environmental management system, which we successfully completed in 2023. This year, we established our UK facilities water baseline and set-up our water measurement dashboard – two important steps towards formulating our water stewardship strategy.

Today, we’re working with teams from across the business to set targets and manage water consumption. We’ve also improved our onboard water data tracking and are piloting a potable water reduction programme on selected routes.

Biodiversity Community Partnerships

Through our BA Better World Community Fund, we support important biodiversity programmes throughout the UK. Our partners monitor and report their programme environmental impact. They include:

  • Sea Wilding to restore native oyster beds in Scottish lochs
  • Blue Marine Foundation to extend the Solent’s first oyster restoration reef
  • Forestry England to plant 9,000 native trees
  • London Wildlife Trust to work on community and biodiversity regeneration of South Hillingdon

In 2024 we’ll establish our biodiversity baseline, set objectives to improve our footprint and track our progress.
